Level 3 armor question

Recommended Posts

So, how many shots from an SKS can level 3 armor withstand? I played a match that got down to 7 players alive and spotted someone shooting another player in the water. He had his back to me and I got 3 hits on him before he took cover. I couldn't see what he had for armor because he was wearing a coat but he survived 3 solid body shots. The next match I'm cruising along on a motorcycle when it flips over for no reason (cuz that never happens) and by some miracle I survive the fall and take minimal damage. While trying to pick the bike up I get hit twice by an SKS and I'm dead. Both hits were to the body and I had a fresh level 3 vest on. It seems that I always have to put more bullets into someone to kill them than they do to kill me. Yesterday I had three hits with the revolver on a guy with no armor or helmet with two shots point blank to the chest and he killed me with a couple of punches. Another example would be when I hit a guy with a car then lit him up with a UMP yet he kills me in 3 shots with an M4. I know I'm not a great player and I miss a lot of shots but I expect damage to be done when I do hit my target yet it doesn't happen that way.

As you can see in the link above, 4 body shots on lvl 3 armor will do 99 damage.  Literally 1hp left.  Lvl3 armor is that good.  Also, if just one of those 4 shots hit an extremity it would be a kill.  Shooting someone in the arm does more damage than the chest if they have military gear.

More importantly you should be aware of how big the difference is between headshots and bodyshots. Its freaking astronomical.  I guarantee you that those deaths that seemed to happen too quickly were at least one or 2 headshots.  Maybe not the final shot so you didn't see it in the death screen.  Always aim for the head.  Even if you only hit half as many shots as you would aiming at the chest you're probably still doing more damage.

Thanks for the link, some good info there. I do know how much more damage headshots do, I've been killed plenty of times by headshot lol. In this instance I'm pretty confident both shots hit my body and not the head but a limb could have been hit too. I always aim center mass unless I have a sniper with a scope. My aiming skill isn't good enough to try for headshots at close range.

I blame the armor not registering at all....If you look at my armor icons on the screen, sometimes I loose my helmet or vest for no real reason that I can understand.

The helmet doesn't register till I get a backpack in this one: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/wizardO3/video/45882451

In this one, my helmet is again the culprit, but then I noticed the vest pulls the same BS. http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/wizardO3/video/45882657

I don't know if this actually affects how the game determines damage or not. Been fairly inconclusive so far. However the easiest way to deal with this is to drop the armour and pick it up. Seems to fix the issue.

I've had something like that happen with weapons before. Parachute in, grab gun and ammo and either the gun, ammo or both don't register for 15 or 20 seconds. Not cool when you are in a a place like the school.

Lvl. 3 armor reduces damage by 55% and limb shots only take 50% damage from any hit, so yeah, limb shots do more damage than body shots in that scenario. Still, if body armor doesn't protect your limbs, why do the helmets also protect the face? Shouldn't they only protect the sides and back of your head unless you have a lvl. 3 helmet or ballistic mask? I once thought that was how it worked, and still think that's how it should.

So less damage overall to the limbs, but still enough for a kill, and in fewer shots with more damage per shot when compared to the hits to the body.

This is incorrect. Limb shots do much less damage than a headshot, level 3 helmet or not. An sks will take 4 shots to kill on limbs.
